FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Why are there air bubbles in the water?

A: Usually after an interruption in service, such as a water leak, air is introduced into the line during the repair process. Once the repairs are made, the operators flush the lines to remove any air and debris introduced during the repair process. Some air can remain trapped in the high spots of the water line and released when consumers start using larger volumes of water. The water will come out of the tap with a milky look to it which are tiny air bubbles dispersed in the water. This condition usually passes quickly. In the event this condition persists, please contact our office as soon as possible.

Q: Why is my bill so high?

A: High water bills are a direct result of increased usage by the consumer or from a water leak on the customer's side of the water meter. If you feel your bill is higher than your normal usage then you may have a leak. Contact our office and we'll be glad to help you figure out any problems that may exist.

Q: How do I report a water leak?

A: Even though our operators constantly look for leaks in the system, more often it's the customer that finds water coming out of the ground where it shouldn't. If you suspect a leak or a possible leak, please contact us at the numbers listed below.

Q: Is my water safe to drink?

A: Yes. Your water system conforms to the Drinking Water Standards of Texas. Information on your water system can be found in the Consumer Confidence Reports located in the Consumer Information portion of this web site.

Q: What is a "Boil Water Notice" and how does it affect me?

A: A Boil Water Notice is a notification issued to the water customers by the owner of the water system, in accordance to the Texas Administrative Code Chapter 290 rules and enforced by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, if the entire water system's pressure drops below 20 psi usually due to a water main leak or booster pump failure. There can be instances of partial de-watering of a system that will not require a notification. In the event of a notification being in effect it is recommended that the water be boiled before being consumed. Once the Bacteriological Reported samples return clear, usually in 24 hrs, the Boil Water Notice will be lifted.

Water Leaks

To check for a water leak, make sure that no water is running inside (washing machines, dishwashers, etc. are off) or outside (water sprinklers, etc. are off).  Go outside in your front yard and locate your water meter.  Typically it will be on the edge of your property in a black box with a blue lid.  There may be one or two meters inside.  If there are two meters, one is your meter and the other is your neighbors.  Yours is the meter closest to your property.  Open the meter lid, look at the meter, which is similar to a car odometer.  If the red, orange, or black triangle moves during this time, then water is going through the meter.  This means that something is using water on your property.

  • Look for signs of a leak (wet spots, puddles of water, etc.) on the ground between the meter box and your house.
  • You may call the Angelina and Neches River Authority at (936) 632-7795 to request a leak check on your meter.
  • If the leak is on the customer line (ex: customer water line located from the meter box to the house), then you will need to call a plumber to locate the leak and repair it.

Drought Contingency Plan

Request for Comments for the Preparation of the Angelina Co. Fresh Water Supply District No. 1 Drought Contingency Plan

The Angelina County Fresh Water Supply District No. 1 (the District) is requesting comments on the District’s Drought Contingency Plan (the Plan).  This request for comments is to provide the opportunity for the public to provide input into the preparation of the Plan.  The District is directed to provide public involvement in the preparation of the Plan in 30 Texas Administrative Code Section 288.20.  The comment period closes at 5:00 p.m. on August 16, 2013.

The goal of the Plan is to balance the competing needs for water and minimize the adverse effects of water shortages during periods of drought and other emergency water shortages.  This Plan addresses the steps to be taken by the District or its designee, Angelina and Neches River Authority (ANRA), when drought conditions occur and when it appears the existing water supply may not be sufficient to meet all of the existing needs without some type of restrictions.

The District and its designee will review and consider comments during the development and finalization of the Plan.  Written responses to these comments will not be provided.  Any revisions to the Plan, whether resulting from these comments or not, will be subject to the District’s Board of Supervisors review and approval.  The Plan will be considered for formal adoption, by Resolution, at the next scheduled District Board of Supervisors meeting.  The date and time of the meeting is to be determined.  Public notification of the meeting and the meeting agenda will be provided.

Comments on the Plan may be submitted to Operations Division Manager, Angelina and Neches River Authority, P.O. Box 387, Lufkin, Texas 75902, or faxed to (936) 632-2564.  Electronic comments may be submitted via e-mail to info@anra.org.  File size restrictions may apply to comments submitted via e-mail.  All comments should reference the District Plan.

A downloadable copy of the draft Plan is available here: Draft ACF Drought Contingency Plan

A hard copy of the Plan is available for review at the District’s and ANRA’s business office.
